BIOGRAPHY

After graduating from Stanford with a degree in political science and prior to applying to law school, Cliff made the decision to take some time to pursue his passion. Songwriting. The subsequent 25 years have produced a #1 hit on the jazz charts and frequent collaborations with recording artists including Ke$ha, Keb’ Mo’, Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead ), Chris Barron (Spin Doctors) and Lisa Loeb. At this point, law school doesn’t seem like quite as much fun. Cliff teaches songwriting for organizations and companies including The Stanford Jazz Workshop and Lynda.com and has spoken about songwriting for TEDx.

THE WORKSHOP

  • Participants are provided with a primer on the rules of songwriting and metaphor.
  • Small teams of participants are then tasked with writing a verse and chorus of a song based on a metaphor derived from the client’s goal for the session.
