Hi,
Welcome to the third edition of the newsletter. By now, I'm sure you're well into your 2007 musical routine and hopefully enjoying what you're doing.
Things in both New York and Nashville are the "good kind of busy" these days. In New York, I've met, written with and recorded some truly inspiring talent coming from the pop, jazz and even classical worlds. At the same time, I'm staying connected to Nashville both through frequent work trips and even more frequent Nashville/New York recording sessions.
Cliff's Walk-In Closet in Nashville has been busy on its own with album projects, songwriting demos for Nashville writers and recordings for songwriters from all over the world who have come to Nashville to write. "Out of town" songwriters are finding that it makes good sense to demo their new songs with Nashville instrumental and vocal talent before heading home.
Speaking of Nashville talent, this issue's artist spotlight will feature my colleague, friend and mentor, Tom Kimmel. I've had the pleasure of writing with and producing this supremely gifted singer/songwriter for almost ten years. By the time this newsletter reaches you, we'll have started work on an album of Tom's songs all of which have made their way into movies and television shows in the course of his career.
In closing, I'd like to thank both Davida Rochman and Ryan Smith of Shure Microphones on behalf of both my studios and Jay Ottaway, the winner in the January drawing for Shure's amazing KSM-9 live/studio condenser microphone. We'll be starting a new drawing as of this newsletter so remember that every hour of studio time you book enters you to win.
Hope to work with you in New York or Nashville soon,
Cliff

| WHAT A PRODUCER DOES & WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER USING ONE

The best way I know to describe what a producer does comes in the form of this analogy: A producer is to a recording as a director is to a film. When it comes to making a film, the buck essentially stops with the director. It's the [MORE...]

TOM KIMMEL
Tom Kimmel is one of those rare songwriters with a double gift. He not only has the ability to create songs that some of the all-time musical greats have recorded but also has the talent to record definitive versions of those same songs himself.
Since moving to Nashville from Alabama in 1977, Tom has worn the hats of songwriter and recording artist with equal success. In the 80's, Tom released several rock albums on Polygram Records working with legendary producers Bill Szymczyk (The Eagles, The Who) and Neil Dorfsman (Dire Straits, Sting). [MORE...]
