ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: GLEN CARUBA

The list of artists Glen Caruba has either performed with or recorded for reads like a “who’s who” of music greats from Jimmy Buffett to Kenny Rogers to Lionel Richie. Growing up in the Miami’s musical melting pot, Glen moved to Nashville in the early 90’s and immediately established himself as a “go to” percussionist for both live and studio work.

Along with recording on multiple certified gold recordings, jingles and motion picture soundtracks, Glen also makes himself available (when time allows) for songwriting demos and independent CD projects including an upcoming EP by Nashville indy phenomenon, Charlie Degenhart, where Glen played both a full drum kit and a variety of world percussion instruments including djembe, cahon and congas.

Above and beyond his live and studio work, Glen is an active clinician for Pearl Drum Corporation who also brought Glen onboard as a product specialist. At Pearl, Glen not only promotes Pearl Percussion worldwide but actively designs new percussion instruments.

As a teacher, Glen has an instructional video called The Contemporary Percussionist and two books, with CDs, called Afro Cuban Drumming and Modern Percussion Grooves (Hal Leonard Publishing). As a nice coda to his busy session and live work, Glen recently set the world record for the fastest bare hands in 60 seconds at the “World’s Fastest Drummer” competition in Anaheim, CA (he hit a conga drum 1140 times in one minute!).

Keep an eye and an ear out for Glen. He’s as good as it gets.
